Aurora Catholic Federal Credit Union first came into existence as St. Therese Federal Credit Union in the church hall of St. Therese Parish on January 12, 1955, when a small group of interested parishioners decided to file an Organization Certificate Application with the Bureau of Federal Credit Unions. The Certificate was approved on January 21, 1955. The Credit Union opened with 27 share accounts totaling $907.50. Of those first 27 members, some are still members today! By the end of the year, St. Therese Federal Credit Union had 123 members with shares totaling $6,757.99 and loans outstanding of $8,551.05.
For the first year, business was conducted only after the 9, 10 and 11:15 A. M. Masses each Sunday. In February 1956, we added the hours of 7 to 9 P.M. on Thursday evenings. Business was first conducted in the church hall, and late in 1956, Father Regan gave us permission to partition off a small corner of the hall for use as a private office. In those early days, we kept all of our records by hand posting. In 1967 the Credit Union moved into our building at 1400 Joliet St. in Aurora.
In 1975 members of Queen of Peace Catholic Parish became eligible to join St. Therese F.C.U., and in 1978 members of St. Michael, the Archangel Catholic Parish, became eligible to join as well. In 1996, St. Therese Federal Credit Union officially became Aurora Catholic Federal Credit Union in recognition of our expanded field of membership.
From these beginnings, thanks to the hard work of many dedicated volunteers, we have grown to over 2,150 members with more than $8,000,000.00 in assets. We now offer share draft (checking) accounts, debit cards, savings, IRA and certificate accounts, as well as a wide variety of loan products. We are now centrally located at 2150 South Peoria Street and have a drive up window for your convenience.
